David Mahvi, MD

Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Mahvi is a founder and the CEO of Carolina Kidney Partners.

Dr. Mahvi is the former President of the Northwestern Medical Group. He has many years of experience with healthcare system strategy and operations. He has also developed and managed value-based health care programs in Chicago and Charleston. His focus is on providing providers with the resources needed to manage patients with chronic disease. He envisions value-based healthcare as the optimal way to align providers and care coordination in the management of patients with chronic kidney disease.

Howard Lifland, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr Lifland is a longtime partner in Columbia Nephrology Associates. Dr Lifland completed his undergraduate training at Washington University in Saint Louis and obtained his MD at the University of Rome. He completed internal medicine training at the University of Virginia affiliate in Roanoke VA. He did his nephrology training at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Howard started his career in Connecticut but was enticed to South Carolina by Joe Brannigan in 2008.

Doctor Lifland was previously the Chairman of the Quality Committee at Columbia Nephrology Associates from 2010 to July 2024. He was subspecialty Teacher of the Year at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He also teaches Nephrology to the PA students at University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He has been recognized as a Top Doctor multiple times in Columbia magazine. He also has a long-standing interest in clinical research, and has been the principal investigator or sub-investigator in 40 trials to date. He is the current chair of the SC DHEC Advisory Council on Dialysis.

Tara M. Lock, MHA

Chief Operating Officer

Tara Lock is the Chief Operating Officer of Carolina Kidney Partners

Ms. Lock has served as the chief operating officer of many health care operations. Most recently, she was Chief Administrative Officer for the oncology service line at MUSC. In this and prior roles, she focused on providing high-touch access for chronically ill patients to providers and novel support services.

Cindy Kramer, MS, RN

Chief Nursing Officer

Cindy Kramer is the Chief Nursing Office of Carolina Kidney Partners. 

Cindy oversees the program development and care coordination operations for CKP to drive high-quality patient care. She designed the care coordination model, data metrics, and new education materials that CKP is utilizing which differentiates themselves from other care coordination programs.  She has 25 years practicing in the nursing profession and served many years in leadership roles at major academic centers developing care coordination programs and leading high performing teams. Experience includes transplant program development, accreditations, quality/data management, complex care coordination, navigation, patient access, innovation, value-based care for center of excellence, and clinical trials. Prior to CKP, Cindy served as Program Director of Blood & Marrow Transplant, Cellular Therapy, Patient Care Navigation, and Patient Access. In her earlier nursing career, she provided care for peritoneal dialysis patients and pediatric post-kidney transplants in the hospital setting. Cindy received a bachelor's degree in nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina and a master's degree in nursing organizational leadership from the University of Kansas Medical Center.  

John Mahvi

Chief Technology Officer

John Mahvi is the Chief Technology Officer of Carolina Kidney Partners.

John Mahvi has 25 years of information technology experience across a broad spectrum of sectors, including technology, manufacturing, information security, and healthcare IT.

Lynn Hutt

Chief Compliance Officer

Lynn is the Chief Compliance Officer of Carolina Kidney Partners.

Prior to joining CKP, Lynn was the Director of Healthcare Compliance and Institutional Privacy at The University of Toledo Medical Center. at which, she was responsible for the following: financial reviews, billing audits, compliance, privacy and research issues. Lynn has extensive experience in managing audits that originated from the Office of Inspector General, Center for Medicare and Medicaid, and CGS. he is certified in healthcare compliance from the Healthcare Compliance Association (HCCA).
